Runners Cook up a storm for a good cause

OVER 3,000 enthusiastic walkers, joggers, and runners participated in the 25th annual Cook Medical Mini-Marathon last Sunday.

Carla Di Benedetto, of the sponsors, commented: “It’s an event that celebrates togetherness and inclusivity, while also raising vital funds for charity.”

“The people who take part are what make it so special. I would like to thank and congratulate each and everyone of the participants.”

On the competitive front, the men’s winner was Chris Jeuken (Derg AC), followed home by Declan Moore (Bilboa AC), with Karl Fitzmaurice of Shannon in third.

The women’s race was won by Dympna Ryan (Dundrum AC), with the other podium places taken by Lisa Hegarty (Leevale AC) and Kealey Tideswell (Clonmel AC).

Now in its 25th year, the mini-marathan saw participants of all ages and abilities run, jog, and walk the 5km and 10km routes, while raising money for local and national charities.

In 2022, the race changed from a women’s event to an all-inclusive race, welcoming all to come together and have fun for a good cause.

This year, racers from 26 counties in Ireland took part in the racealong with international virtual participants in many regions, including America, Canada, India, Austria and the UK.
