PEOPLE Before Profit candidate for City North, Ruairí Fahy, is strongly of the view that Limerick needs a Directly Elected Mayor (DEM) that does not live in an ivory tower.
“We need a mayor that lives the same life as the people of Limerick,” he said.
“We want to see people who are driven by the desire to make Limerick a better place to live, not by a private chauffeur or a desire to develop their celebrity persona or political careerism on a bloated public salary,” Mr Fahy said.
“Any shift to move powers from unelected individuals into a democratically elected office is positive, but that power needs to be accountable to the people who put them in the position to make decisions.”
