IN THE heart of London’s vibrant music scene, a trio known as Dream Wife has been making waves that ripple across the sonic spectrum. With their interstellar new album, ‘Lucky Number,’ Dream Wife invites you to groove along as they transform into a multi-limbed space-age organism.
Dream Wife are dynamic vocalist Rakel Mjöll, fierce guitarist Alice Go, and enigmatic bassist Bella Podpadec.
On Wednesday, October 11, they’re touching down at Dolans, and you won’t want to miss this cosmic ride.
Lucky Number is the latest chapter in Dream Wife’s musical odyssey, featuring captivating singles like ‘Orbit,’ ‘Leech,’ and the unforgettable anthem ‘Hot (Don’t Date A Musician).’
Crafted under the watchful eye of Alice Go as producer and mixed by the legendary Alan Moulder (known for his work with Nine Inch Nails, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Killers, and Depeche Mode), this album is a sonic spaceship you won’t want to disembark from.
In their own words, the band described the album’s creative process:
“Written through the joy of jamming together and locking into the groove like a multi limbed space age organism, Orbit has a dance rock edge from the early noughties of bands like New Young Pony Club and Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
“Lyrically, it was inspired by post-lockdown London coming back to life and sharing a space through friendship and community. And how each day you never know what’s in store for you or how a stranger can become someone close to you – for a day, a heartbeat, a phase, or a lifetime.”
Dream Wife’s journey from their debut self-titled album in 2018 has been nothing short of remarkable. Their previous release, ‘So When You Gonna…,’ catapulted them into the Top 20 album charts, making history as the only indie album created and produced solely by women at that time to achieve such a feat.
Their star has continued to shine brightly on the international stage, with appearances at festivals like Lollapalooza (US), Laneway (AU), Summersonic (JP), Primavera (ES), and Pitchfork (FR).
Dream Wife’s music has infiltrated the soundtracks of television shows, showcasing their ability to craft tunes that resonate with audiences in myriad ways. Their versatility extends to remixing tracks for renowned artists such as Rina Sawayama, Nova Twins, Porridge Radio, and many others.
But what sets Dream Wife apart isn’t just their musical prowess—it’s their commitment to fostering a sense of community and giving back. They channelled proceeds from direct digital sales of “So When You Gonna…” to organizations like Black Minds Matter and Gendered Intelligence.
