Limerick TD questions eligibility criteria for parking permits

Limerick Fianna Fáil TD Willie O'Dea.

A LIMERICK TD recently questioned if the criteria for parking permits for those with disabilities will be reviewed.

Fianna Fáil TD Willie O’Dea asked Transport Minister Éamon Ryan if the criteria to qualify for a disabled person’s parking permit will be reviewed, as many individuals who previously had a parking permit are not qualifying for these permits at renewal time.

Responding to Deputy O’Dea in the Dáil, Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Jack Chambers, said that under the Disabled Parking Scheme, eligibility for a disabled parking permit is intended for people whose mobility is severely and permanently restricted and for people registered as legally blind.

“It allows access to parking bays in close proximity to important services to be able to access the service without undue difficulty.”
