Appeal date brought forward in case of murdered Limerick businessman

Tom and Molly Martens

A DATE for the first hearing in an appeal by the father and daughter convicted of the murder of Limerick businessman Jason Corbett has been brought forward.

The Limerick man’s then wife, Molly Martens, and her father, Tom Martens, were originally convicted of second degree murder after the father of two was beaten to death at his home in North Carolina in August 2015.

The two have been released from their prison sentences on appeal of the 2017 conviction.

After numerous delays, which the late Mr Corbetts’ family say have caused further anguish to them and his two children, it was thought the first hearing in relation to the appeal would not take place until mid-November. However, the date has now been announced as October 30.
