THE Kilmallock Road has reopened following a bridge strike on the outskirts of Limerick City earlier this morning (Wednesday).
The incident occurred at around 10.15am this morning when a truck hit the railway bridge just off the Kilmallock Road.
Gardaí now say that the scene has been cleared and the road has since reopened.
“Gardaí attended the scene of a road traffic incident involving a lorry on Childers Road, Limerick City, this morning, Wednesday 27th of September 2023, at approximately 10.15am” a Garda spokesperson said.
“There were no reports of injuries. The road has reopened,” the statement concluded.
Earlier, a statement from Irish Rail said that there was no significant impact on rail services as a result of the collision.
“This was reported at 10:07, and as it was very close to Colbert Station, our bridge team inspected and confirmed that there was no damage to the bridge by 10:18, so there was no significant effect on rail services,” the statement said.
Roads across Limerick City and County had been busier than normal this morning as Storm Agnes makes landfall across Ireland, bringing strong winds and heavy rain.
Limerick is currently included in a status yellow wind warning issued by Met Éireann, which is scheduled to last until midnight.
