FOLLOWING the completion of the group stages in the Limerick Senior Hurling Championship, those still in the frame to capture the John Daly Cup are Ballybrown (on a scoring difference of a mere point from Adare), Doon, Mungret/St. Paul’s, Na Piarsaigh, Kilmallock and Patrickswell.
As the two leading teams in Group One, holders Na Piarsaigh and Kilmallock both progress to the semi-finals in a fortnights time.
This weekend, the quarter-final pairings will involve Ballybrown, Doon, Mungret/St. Paul’s and Patrickswell.
On Sunday, Brian Begley managed Mungret/St. Paul’s historically gained promotion to the top tier after a thrilling 2-17 to 0-20 defeat of long-time leaders Ballybrown at rain-lashed Claughaun.
Liam Lynch, in an overall contribution of a stunning 1-12, crashed home a crucial goal in the closing stages of a marvellous contest in which the eventual winners trailed by six points at the interval.
Mungret were initial 66/1 shots to annex their first senior championship, but those odds have since been trimmed accordingly.
