FOLLOWING the completion of the group stages, six teams – Adare, Fr Casey’s, Kildimo/Pallaskenry (KP), Monaleen, Na Piarsaigh and Newcastle West (NCW) – remain in the chase to capture the 2023 Limerick Senior Football Championship.

Already assured of a semi-final berth, holders NCW served-up another polished display with a runaway (1-17 to 0-6) win over Oola at Kilmallock’s Fitzgerald Park.

Ahead 0-9 to 0-4 at the interval, the three-in-a-row seeking outfit pulled away in the closing half with the goal arriving from the outstanding Iain Corbett.

In Newcastle West, Fr Casey’s of Abbeyfeale secured the runners-up spot in Group One with a 1-10 to 0-10 defeat of KP, who advance in third position. The game’s only goal arrived inside the opening minute from an ultra-alert Rory O’Brien.

Elsewhere, St Kieran’s of Ardagh/Carrigkerry preserved their senior status with a precious 1-10 to 0-9 victory against Claughaun in Clarina.

In Group Two, Adare kept up their 100 per cent record with a 4-13 to 3-8 victory over plucky Ballysteen in Clarina.

The foundation of the win came through Adare’s opening half return of three goals, courtesy of Shane O’Connor (2) and long-serving Davy Lyons.

Monaleen, who led 2-6 to 1-4 at the break, sealed second spot after a snug 4-11 to 1-7 win at the expense of Galtee Gaels in Kilmallock. Ger Clancy caught the eye for the winners.

Third place was secured by Na Piarsaigh, with a lovely goal from Dylan Cronin crucial in their 1-9 to 0-6 defeat of Ballylanders in Fedamore.
