Limerick brother and sister scoop national prize for their supplement company

Family Fuelz: Kylie and William O'Donoghue, co-founders of FemFuelz.

A LIMERICK family run supplements company has been announced as one of the winners of this year’s Grow With Aldi programme.

FemFuelz, set up by Kylie O’Donoghue and her brother, Limerick hurler William O’Donoghue, were announced as one of the winners of the programme that will now see their product stocked in Aldi’s 160 stores nationwide for the next year.

Speaking previously to the Limerick Post, Kylie said that she wanted to establish a brand of supplements that was specifically aimed at women.

“Everything within the fitness space with regards to supplements has always been quite ‘macho’, whether that is packaging, marketing, branding, the list goes on. We think it is crucial that females feel heard, catered for, and feel like they understand what they take and why they take it,” Kylie said.

Both Kylie and William studied business at University of Limerick, setting up FemFuelz when Kylie was in the third year of her studies in 2020. By January 2021, both had quit their full time jobs to work on the brand.

The winners were chosen by Grow with ALDI ambassador Roz Purcell and Bord Bia CEO Jim O’Toole and announced at the National Ploughing Championships in Laois.

Joining Kylie and William on the winner’s stand were Peter Barrett of County Down company The Craft Brew Tea Co and Ian Miller, who hails from County Derry, with his product ONiT! Onions.

Speaking about their win, Kylie and William said they hope that winning the Grow With Aldi programme will help bring their brand to more women across Ireland.

“We are overjoyed to have been selected as one of this year’s Grow with ALDI winners. When we started FemFuelz, we wanted to create a supplement that was tailored to the nutritional needs of women and designed to help them feel stronger, happier, and healthier on the inside and out,” the brother and sister due said.

“We are so grateful to everyone at Grow with Aldi for believing in our vision and helping us along our journey. We look forward to sharing our blends with women all over Ireland.”

Rachael O’Connor, Buying Director at Aldi Ireland, said: “This year’s Grow with ALDI has been another resounding success as demonstrated by our three remarkable winners who each exemplify what it means to be bold, brave, and tenacious.”
