Limerick supermarket checkout worker threatened with broken bottle in terrifying ordeal

A YOUNG supermarket worker was subjected to a terrifying ordeal last week by a would-be thief who threatened her with a broken bottle.

The young checkout woman was working in Tesco in the Crescent Shopping Centre on Wednesday September 6 when she was confronted by the man, Gardaí in Limerick have said.

The assailant was wielding a broken wine bottle and threatened the woman with it. Gardaí say the man was demanding that the woman hand over money to him.

According to Sergeant Ber Leetch, Crime Prevention Officer at Henry Street Garda Station, the man left empty handed after  Gardaí were called.

The frightening incident took place at around 2pm last Wednesday, when the supermarket was busy with lunchtime shoppers.

Gardaí in Roxboro are appealing to witnesses of the attempted  robbery to come forward. The man is believed to have acted alone, and Gardaí are aware a number of people would have witnessed the scary scene which occurred in broad daylight.
