THERE is plenty of Limerick interest in the 2023 Boylesports Irish Greyhound Derby Final at Shelbourne Park at the weekend.
Bob Shanahan of Limerick’s Ennis Road – and his Pension Plan Syndicate – stand a great chance of landing the €125,000 to-the-winner Classic (live Virgin Media, 9-10pm).
Trained in Tipperary (Cloughjordan) by Pat Guilfoyle, Shanahan’s runner Music Glideaway was the fastest in the semi-finals (29.32). The 7/2 shot has a favourable draw in trap six.
Pat Buckley of Velvet Kennels (Doon) – in which jovial Abbeyfeale bookmaker Tim ‘Spike’ Murphy is involved – has 4/1 chance Bens Teddy in the decider. In search of his 30th career win, Teddy was bred by Corona Ryan of Knocklong.
Another runner, Threesixfive, was bred by the Walsh family of Newcastle West.
The 13/8 favourite is the Jennifer O’Donnell – daughter of three-time Derby winning handler Matt of Killenaule, Tipperary – trained The Other Kobe (trap two). She won the Classic 12 months ago with Born Warrior.
