WITH the minimum of fuss, holders Newcastle West (NCW) are safely through to the semi-finals of the Limerick Senior Football Championship.

And, that is with the luxury of a round to spare in a competition the Magpies are aiming to win for a third year on the trot.

The westernersโ€™ followed-up on earlier wins over Fr. Caseyโ€™s, St. Kieranโ€™s and Claughan with a 2-10 to 0-11 victory over previous Group One table-toppers Kildimo/Pallaskenry (KP) at Seรกn Finn Park, Rathkeale on Thursday.

Brian Oโ€™Sullivan and Iain Corbett (penalty) grabbed goals in either half for NCW, who have relegation threatened Oola as opposition in the concluding group fixture in a few weeksโ€™ time.

Despite the loss, KP are through to the quarter-finals, as are Fr. Caseyโ€™s after a local derby 1-14 to 1-9 defeat of St. Kieranโ€™s at Newcastle West.

Martin Scannell and David Ward were best for Caseyโ€™s.

St. Kieranโ€™s, Oola and Claughaun are all out of contention to reach the knock-out phase.

In Group Two, quarter/semi-final bound Monaleen proved too strong for Ballysteen, 1-17 to 1-11, at Ballingarry.

For the victors, full-forward Daniel Daly starred with a contribution of eight points.

An overall clearer picture from this group will be known after the completion of other matches within over the weekend.
