THE FINAL free family fun day of the summer will take place in the city this weekend.
Summer at Honan’s Quay will take place on Saturday (August 26) and promises to be a blast.
There will be art workshops, face painting, street games, summer jazz sounds and a kids disco taking place throughout the afternoon, organised by Limerick City and County Council.
Local musical acts will take to the stage throughout the day, with the Hot Swing Club, JaYne, DJ Will Softly and Sean O’Meara, Paddy Shanahan, and Paul O’Connell performing music to keep children and adults alike entertained throughout the day.
The riverside space at Honan’s Quay remains closed to vehicular traffic until September 1 to facilitate these family fun days, as well as new seating, provided by the Urban Mobile Forest and two table-tennis tables.
A ground mural is also taking shape on the site, to bring additional colour to the area.
Following the delivery of the abstract art mural to the north and west elevations of University of Limerick’s City Campus building, Limerick City and County Council are now adding a 3D splash of colour, extending the mural onto the ground surface.
Mayor Gerald Mitchell said: “Honan’s Quay is a unique location in Limerick City with views of Sarsfield Lock, Shannon Boat Club, Shannon Weir, Curragower Falls, King John’s Castle and Saint Mary’s Cathedral.”
“It has been great to see this recreational space come to life during the summer months. The new 3D effect mural will add another dimension to this colourful location and will leave a lasting impression on visitors as they enjoy a different kind of energy here in Limerick,” he said.
Summer at Honan’s Quay takes place on Saturday, August 26 from 12pm to 5pm.
Entry is free and all are welcome to attend.
