GARDAÍ are investigating after a man was seriously assaulted moments after leaving University Hospital Limerick (UHL).
The man was accosted in broad daylight as he left the Dooradoyle hospital at around 5.25pm on Thursday, July 27.
As the man was attempting to cross St Nessan’s Road outside the hospital, a cyclist approached him from the Raheen direction.
The cyclist got off his bike and assaulted the man, leaving him with serious facial injuries, according to Gardaí.
The man was subsequently treated for his injuries at UHL, though his current condition is unknown.
Garda John Finnerty, Crime Prevention Officer at Henry Street Garda Station, said that investigations are continuing into the assault.
“This was a serious and unprovoked assault. Gardaí at Roxboro Garda Station are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.”
He also explained that, at that time of the evening, there would have been a lot of traffic and pedestrians in the area and appealed for anyone who might have seen anything to make themselves known to Gardaí.
Anyone with any information which may be useful to the ongoing investigation, including camera or dash-cam footage taken at the time, is asked to contact Roxboro Garda Station on 061 214 340, the Garda Confidential Line on 1900 666 111, or any Garda Station.
