UNIVERSITY Hospital Limerick (UHL) has welcomed a new consultant oncologist to the team following a recent appointment.
Dr Anees Hassan will join UHL as a Consultant Medical Oncologist, having spent two years working in Dublin at St James’ Hospital and the Mater Misericordiae Hospital.
Dr Hassan graduated as Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from Mansoura University in Egypt, and holds Royal Colleges of Physicians (UK) Diplomas in General Internal Medicine and in Medical Oncology, and was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.
He began his treatment of cancer in 2009 in Saudi Arabia, and then completed his Higher Specialist Training in Medical Oncology in Ireland in 2018.
Dr Hassan joins UHL after four years experience working as a Consultant Medical Oncologist, first spending two years at Letterkenny University Hospital in Donegal, and then another two years in Dublin.
An active member of the European Society of Medical Oncology, Dr Hassan specialises in the treatment of solid tumours. He has actively
participated in national scientific meetings and international congresses in the field of Medical Oncology.
His research on solid tumours has been published in
national and international journals, and he has participated in numerous leadership and quality meetings.
In his free time, Dr Hassan says his favourite hobby is playing table-tennis.
