One woman arrested following serious road crash in County Limerick

ONE woman has been arrested following a serious road crash that took place on the N21 in Adare, County Limerick, yesterday afternoon (Friday August 18).

Gardaí today confirmed that a woman in her 40s has been arrested in relation to the crash, under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, and detained at a Garda Station in the Limerick area. 

The crash, which happened at around 3.45pm yesterday, and is said to have taken place close to the entrance of the Adare Manor Golf Club, involved a car and an articulated lorry. 

Four women, who were travelling in the car, were taken to hospital for treatment. Two of the women, aged in their 60s, are being treated for serious injuries. The other two women, aged 40s and 60s, were also treated for what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries. 

The scene was attended by Gardaí and emergency services, and the N21 road was closed off to traffic. However, a statement from An Garda Síochána has confirmed that the road has since been re-opened.

No other injuries from the crash have so far been reported. 

Garda enquiries into the serious crash are ongoing and Gardaí have appealed for any witnesses who may have information useful to the investigation to come forward. 

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the N21 or in Adare yesterday afternoon between 3.30pm and 4.15pm, are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí,” a statement from An Garda Síochana read.
