GARDAÍ have made a number of arrests after an incident of violent disorder at a petrol station on the outskirts of the city on the Monday of the August Bank Holiday (August 7).
The incident saw one man hit by a car, while videos circulating across social media showed one of the men brandishing what appears to be an axe, swinging it at a dark coloured car before the driver could been seen accelerating towards the man, almost pinning him against a gas pump.
Gardaí confirmed to the Limerick Post that four men had been arrested in relation to the incident, following a number of searches in the Childers Road area.
A spokesman for An Garda Síochána said: “Gardaí in Limerick investigating a violent disorder incident at a premises on Ballysimon Road on Monday 7th August 2023 conducted a search operation at a number of residences on Childers Road on Monday 14th August 2023.”
“The operation was carried out by Gardaí from Henry Street Crime Unit, supported by the Regional Armed Support Unit and the Divisional Search Team.”
The four men, aged in their 40s, 30s, 20s, and late teens, were arrested and are currently detained at Garda stations across Limerick under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
A number of items were also seized during the search operation, the Garda spokesman said.
