FOUL play has been ruled out in the death of a woman who was found dead at a home in Newcastle West on Monday evening.

The body of Catherine ‘Ca’ McCarthy Atkinson, of Newcastle West, was discovered in a home in the Templegreen area by Gardaí at around 5.10pm on Monday evening, sparking an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

However, following a post-mortem today (Tuesday August 15) Gardaí are satisfied that there was no involvement of another party in the tragedy.

While the Garda investigation into the woman’s death will continue, the findings will now be for a coroner’s inquest, rather than any criminal inquiry.

Locals paying tribute to the late Newcastle West mother and grandmother, who hailed originally from the Ballinacurra Weston area of Limerick City, said she was a “lovely woman” who “never had a bad word to say about anyone” and “always looked out for everyone” in her area.
