COUNTY Limerick recorded the highest number of domestic abuse offences outside of Dublin last year.
That’s according to figures provided by Justice Minister Helen McEntee upon request to Sinn Féin party leader Mary Lou McDonald.
The figures reported 2,477 offences recorded in Limerick across 2022, which include breaches of Interim Barring Orders, Protection Orders, Safety Orders, Emergency Barring Orders, and incidents Gardaí classified as ‘domestic’ in which no offence was identified or recorded a motive of ‘domestic abuse’.
Nationally, 45,244 such cases were reported, marking a 12.7 per cent increase on the 40,135 recorded in 2021.
Data from January to July 19 of this year show 25,155 incidents logged so far nationwide.
