AN ELDERLY man died in a County Kerry coastal town this past Tuesday (August 8) after falling from a cliff head.
The man, aged in his 70s, died in the coastal town of Ballybunion, County Kerry, after falling from a cliff head between the Ladies’ Beach and Nun’s Beach.
According to a spokesman for Ballybunion Sea and Cliff Rescue (BSCR), the rescue service received a call at around 6pm on Tuesday evening reporting that a man had fallen from the cliffs. His body was taken from the water less than 10 minutes later by members of the BSCR, a statement confirmed.
The BSCR spokesman said the man is not believed to be local to the area.
The tragic incident was also attended by the Shannon-based Rescue 115 helicopter, the National Ambulance Service operating out of Tralee, the Ballybunion Unit of the Irish Coast Guard, and Gardaí from Listowel.
According to a statement from An Garda Síochana, the man’s body was removed from the scene and taken to University Hospital Limerick, where a post mortem will take place.
Gardaí say no foul play is suspected.
