Permission granted for 22-bed extension to existing student development

The planned new development at Westbourne Student Residences has been turned down on appeal.

PLANNING permission has been granted for yet another student accommodation block in Limerick City.

Westbourne Student Residences has sought permission to construct a fourth block of student apartments on the site of the existing Westbourne Student Residences on Courtbrack Avenue.

The developer had sought permission to add 22 new student bedrooms to the site in a three-storey apartment block.

The ground floor will see six ensuite bedrooms built, with two student amenity spaces including kitchens and living areas.

The first floor will see eight en-suite bedrooms constructed, as well as a further two student amenity spaces.

The second floor will mirror the one below with eight en-suite bedrooms and two amenity spaces.

Works to the existing site will also form part of the development, with the addition of seven new car parking spaces, 18 bike parking spots, and the provision of a new pedestrian access to the development from the main road.

The new block will also have roof-mounted solar panels to make the building more energy efficient.

Permission was granted by Limerick City and County Council, subject to 13 conditions, including that works on the site can only take place during set hours, that the development will only be used as student accommodation, and that all car parking spaces be ducted for future use as EV charging spaces.
