FUNERAL arrangements have been announced for the former Garryowen rugby player who lost his life in a road crash on Monday of this week (July 31).
Mark McMullen, a father of one, was killed in a two-vehicle crash on the N24 between Condon’s Cross and Barne Lodge, County Tipperary, on Monday morning when the van he was driving collided with an articulated lorry.
Tributes have since poured in from across the county and beyond for the former Garryowen and Shannon rugby player, who was well known and loved in his community.
One mourner posted online that they were “lost for words at this moment of grief and sadness” in the wake of Mr McMullen’s tragic death.
“I have happy memories of [Mark] from primary and secondary school when his gentle and friendly manner made him a friend to all,” another wrote on online obituary site RIP.ie.
Others described the deceased, aged in his early 40s, as “a real gentleman” who had “done a lot of great work for a lot of people who will be forever grateful” and “a good friend and workmate”.
“I will miss our daily chats about everything and nothing. I’m a better person for knowing you,” another online tribute read.
Mr McMullen is survived by his wife Jennifer, son Noah, father Tony, brothers and sister, parents-in-law Mike and Marian, nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends and colleagues at Viatel. He is predeceased by his mother Mary.
Mr McMullen’s remains will be reposing this evening (Friday August 4) from 5.30pm to 7pm at Butler’s Funeral Home in Bruff, County Limerick. Requiem Mass will be held at the Church of St Peter and Paul, Bruff, from 1pm on Saturday (August 5), followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
