A NEW compilation album that highlights the depths of creativity in Limerick is getting a launch party this weekend at the Medieval Quarter on Nicholas Street.
The gigs take place this Saturday August 5 and Sunday August 6.
In collaboration with Treaty City Brewery, the event is outdoors and free of charge featuring live sets from musicians on the disk and guests with food trucks and vendors on site.
12 acts over two days with Sunday’s lineup concentrating on acoustic performances.
Saturday’s lineup: Cascado; Krome; Shroomie; Some Images of Paradise; Godwin and B+
It’s a wonderful eclectic lineup of garageband folk, rockabilly punk, hip hop and a big scoop to have the legendary B+ (aka Brian Cross) on the bill. The Limerick-born, LA based artist runs the Monchilla label and has worked with Mos Def, Q-Tip, Jurrassic 5 and DJ Shadow to name just a few.
Sunday’s lineup: Theatre; Misvanity; Shroomie; Eoin Ryan; Slibhin; Sea Oh When and Sean Freeney.
From post-punk folk to blues rock, to sweet melancholic pop to an impressive set of solo tracks from Eoin Ryan (50 Foot Woman), there is loads of great music to take in on Sunday.
‘Identity: Limerick’s current musical state: a compilation’ is available now on CD and digital download.
The brainchild of Tara Jordan (a recent graduate from LSAD Sculpture and Combined Media), the compilation is part of her Graduate Show project aiming to bring more attention to the talented musicians involved and showcase their innovative songs, shedding light on Limerick’s sonic landscape.
Tara is a Limerick-based visual artist, with a Bachelor of Fine Art at Limerick School of Art and Design.
In the creation of this project Tara worked with a host of Limerick musicians who have contributed to the compilation album. The artists featured include Hazey Haze, Abe Soare, Dylan Flynn and The Dead Poets, Hugo Lynn, JaYne, Martian Subculture, Sea Oh When, Deep Route Gardening, Paddy Mulcahy, Shroomie, Misvanity, Krome, and 40hurtz.
The sequencing of the tracks on the album flows beautifully taking the listener on a journey filled with innovation and creativity from Hazey’s rhymes, Abe Soares’ melodies to the originality of ’Shroomies delivery.
Currently, the compilation album is available for purchase in various locations such as Steamboat Music, Records and Comics, Savins, Café Mia, and Treaty City Brewery. It is also accessible for both CD and digital download on Tara’s website (www.tarajordan.com) and Bandcamp (https://tarajordan.bandcamp.com/album/identity).
All profits generated from the album will be distributed equally among the contributing musicians.
