AHEAD of this week’s Galway Racing Festival – which boasts an incredible prize fund of over €2 million – Billy Lee of Ballingarry completed the second four-timer of his career when riding two winners for Paddy Twomey (Tipperary) and a winner apiece for trainers Ken Condon (Kildare) and Austin Leahy of Athlacca at Cork at the weekend.
Lee won with Twomey pair A Lilac Rolla (7/1) and Vain Gloria (4/9), Condon’s Gabriella’s Spirit (17/2) and Leahy’s 10/1 shot Linger For Longer (10/1).
In the colours of the Irish Equine Syndicate, Linger For Longer raced up with the pace and gained a definite advantage inside the final furlong to beat Ross O’Sullivan’s Samrogue.
At the same meeting, Abbeyfeale apprentices Paddy Harnett and Donnacha O’Brien won the five-furlong nursery handicap with the well-supported 5/2 favourite Asean.
