Limerick short film takes first prize at US festival

Mark O’Connor with Best Narrative Short award at the Red Cedar Film Festival.

THE Limerick made short film ‘Pints’ took home the ‘Best Narrative Short’ award at the Red Cedar Film Festival held at Menomonie, Wisconsin, USA.
The film’s director Mark Peter O’Connor, well known to us as a musician and actor, was at the festival to receive the award for what is his debut film.
Mark posted from the US that he was celebrating a double win for the Treaty this week.
“Thank you to Peter Galante and all the festival team and audience for a lovely welcome. And a big comhghairdeas to all the team of artists on both sides of the lenses/mics who brought this film to life!
Another win for Limerick!”
‘Pints’ was created by a “group of doers” gathered in Limerick to make ‘no budget’ short film, with as much freedom as possible.
It points a lens at real conversations you’d hear in an Irish pub.
Shot in three days, among the themes taken on in this ‘Limerick ‘Oxen of the sun’’ are:
The pulling of a good pint and how to savour it.
The voices of the provinces of the island of Ireland.
To the tune of Irish traditional, hip hop, noise and rock and roll music, ‘Pints’ is a cry from the heart to get back to pulling a good pint.
Filmed by Shane Serrano and written, produced and directed by Mark the 20 minute short features Mark and key cast members Nigel Shinnors, Tom Muldowney, Donal Ryan, Eoin Ryan, Fer Kenobi and Mark de Carreau.
