A NEW TUG boat has been unveiled that will perform work in the Shannon Estuary.

The Celtic Treaty is a new boat expected to replace the Celtic Rebel, which has been in service for over 20 years.

Built in Turkey, the Celtic Treaty is the newest edition to the fleet of Celtic Tugs Limited, and was officially named and unveiled earlier this week (July 11).

From its construction in the Eregli Shipyard in Turkey, the Celtic Treaty sailed under its own power to Cork, where it was reflagged to the Irish flag.

It will now take up service as a tugboat, with firefighting capabilities on the Shannon Estuary.
