THE HSE paid more than €15 million to recruitment firms last year, new figures have shown.
A sum of €15,735,377 was paid as part of an ongoing effort to tackle widespread understaffing throughout the health service, which has been highlighted by both management and frontline health staff.
The HSE North West and Mid West regional area was reported has having the highest spending on recruitment throughout 2022, at €8,787,848.
The area covers Limerick, Clare, North Tipperary, Sligo, Letrim, Donegal, and West Cavan.
The HSE South Area (Kerry and Cork) was not included in the release of figures.
