ONE of the highlights of the Summer in Limerick is Féile na Gréine. The volunteer group, mostly made up of musicians and fans, will run their annual music festival from August 18—20 in locations across the city from art spaces to craft breweries.
This celebration of emerging and experimental music, community and DIY culture will take audiences on a three-day musical trail through the city.
For 2023 the organisers have announced their biggest line-up to date.
This year’s diverse lineup includes the boundary-pushing Katie Kim, the jazz-infused Robocobra Quartet, legendary Limerick scratch-DJ Naive Ted, and a special cinema screening of the award-nominated music documentary by Féile Na Gréine; Out of Place, which was released earlier this year to international acclaim.
With over 30 scheduled events including gigs, site-specific performances, and workshops, this festival is a celebration of everything DIY in Irish independent music.
The three-day musical trail through Limerick city stops at an array of venues, from arts spaces and underground clubs to craft breweries and street parties, with all events free to the public.
FnG organisers mission statement is to curate this year’s festival to, “reflect the beauty and the chaos of Irish independent music communities, brought together in momentary collisions of sight and sound. Communities that have no silhouette, no fixed reference. Amorphous matter, both swelling and receding all at once. It is a beautiful collision.”
