Former prisoner stole to dress himself, court hears

The Limerick Court Complex in Mulgrave Street

A THIEF who stole almost €350 worth of sports clothing from various shops in Limerick City did it partly because he had nothing  to wear after being released from serving a jail sentence, a Judge was told.

Daniel O’Riordan (30), of 105 Lenihan Avenue, Prospect, pleaded guilty to stealing €347.95 worth of goods from shops including Elverys and Lifestyle Sports.

Judge Patricia Harney heard that none of the stolen goods were recovered.

Presiding in the Limerick District Court in Mulgrave Street, the Judge was told that Mr O’Riordan – who has 64 previous convictions – was recorded stealing goods on CCTV.

The court heard from his solicitor, John Herbert, that Mr O’Riordan “comes from an unfortunate background. Some of these thefts were after he was released from a prison sentence and they were of necessity, to get clothing”.
