Shannon Airport to get new weather radar

Shannon Airport.

SHANNON airport, which has long been part of the national weather radar network providing round the clock data to Met Eireann, is to get a new weather radar.

A new radar system with upgraded technological features and capabilities is being installed at the airport by Met Eireann and will allow the national weather service to provide better information about predicted rainfall and weather forecasts to the public.

Work started on the new system last month and is expected to be in place by October.

Weather forecasts at the airport are carrying on as normal, a representative for Shannon Airport confirmed.
