HOLDERS Newcastle West are two wins from as many starts in Group One of the Irish Wire Products Limerick Senior Football Championship.
The Magpies, who overcame St Kieran’s (0-12 to 1-6), are joint leaders with Kildimo/Pallaskenry, who defeated Oola (1-12 to 0-9) at the weekend.
Elsewhere, Fr Casey’s had the measure of pointless Claughaun, 0-16 to 2-3.
In Group Two, Adare swept past Na Piarsaigh (1-10 to 0-4) to remain unbeaten, while there were important victories for Monaleen (over Ballylanders) and Ballysteen (Galtee Gaels).
The championship resumes on the weekend of August 20.
In ladies football, Limerick lost (0-13 to 1-8) to Down in their concluding group fixture in the All-Ireland Junior Championship at Newcastle West and will now face Fermanagh in the semi-final the weekend after next.
Oola’s Amy Ryan (1-1) top scored for Limerick, while Iris Kennelly (Old Mill) and Caoimhe McGrath of Fr Casey’s contributed three points each.
The other semi-final is between Down and Carlow.
