GREEN Party councillor Saša Novak is not happy with the “unsatisfactory” response she has received in calling for the Council’s Roads Maintenance team to fill up a pothole.
According to the City North representative, the Ennis Road pothole has got “dangerously deep” and presents a safety issue for the ever-increasing numbers of cyclists in the area.
On top of that, she considers it an inconvenience for the drivers turning into the driveway, which this pothole marks.
“It has been there for quite some time and while not as deep as this summer, it was certainly visible and ignored. The images on Google Maps show that the double yellow lines have been painted over the gaping hole as early as August 2022,” Cllr Novak told the Limerick Post.
“I sent a request to the Council this week to fill the pothole and I received a completely unsatisfactory response that Uisce Éireann are the responsible party and that they will be notified to action,” she explained.
“It would seem that the deepening hole in question has been ignored for quite some time. It would take a bucket of tar to fix. It really shows the disjointed thinking here and while this affects a relatively small area, it showcases the ‘nothing to do with me approach’ we see much too often on a much bigger scale.
“We urgently need a Directly Elected Mayor with strong executive powers, someone who sees the bigger picture, and who is accountable to people who elect them.”
The Council response to Cllr Novak’s call, read: “Thank you for your request, the area in question has been inspected. The cutting on the road is from Uisce Éireann works, we have forwarded the information to Uisce Éireann to action.”
