HOMEOWNERS in Limerick will now be able to claim grants to help them fix structural issues brought about by defective concrete blocks.
Under the enhanced Defective Concrete Blocks (DCB) Grant Scheme, people in Limerick living in affected properties will be able to claim grants of up to €420,000 to remedy structural issues as a result of defective concrete blocks.
The enhanced scheme was announced this week by Minister for Housing, Local Government, and Heritage, Joe O’Brien.
Minister O’Brien said: “I am really pleased to be able to launch this much needed scheme. I know the difficulties faced by affected households in financial and personal terms has been very significant these past number of years.”
“The improved package of measures under this considerably enhanced scheme will mark a new beginning for those who need to remediate their homes,” he concluded.
Limerick Minister of State Kieran O’Donnell also welcomed the news saying that he had first-hand experience of families who are living in homes with structural defects.
“This scheme will comes as a welcome announcement for homeowners in Limerick whose dwelling had been damaged by the use of defective concrete blocks in its construction,” he said.
“I know first-hand from my contact with affected homeowners, the distress this has caused and I hope this new enhanced scheme will allow them to restore their homes.”
The scheme is now open to people in Limerick and is being administered for Limerick applicants through Limerick City and County Council.
