LIMERICK slipped to their second defeat of the All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship when losing to a 2-19 to 0-11 against Waterford in Cappamore.

Between them, Cappamore’s Claire Keating and Caomhie Costello (Adare) accounted for the bulk of Limerick’s scores.

In the opening round, John Lillis’ side had lost narrowly to Antrim.

Limerick can’t now progress to the knock-out stages of the Championship.

Limerick complete their group programme on July 1, away to Offaly.

In women’s football, Limerick opened their All-Ireland Junior Championship campaign with an away annihilation of Kilkenny (7-21 to 1-5) in Callan. Iris Kenneally of Old Mill top-scored for the winners, emerging with a superb 3-5.

Graham Shine’s side are home to Sligo in round two on Sunday, July 1.

In a show of country-wide unity, both Limerick teams are to play the remainder of the championship season ‘under protest’ due to the failure of the GAA, LGFA, and the Camogie Association to implement a ‘player charter’.

Limerick was represented at the protest announcement by camogie captain Marian Quaid of Bruff.
