A VIDEO has been shared online of a man violently kicking and punching a woman in the face in Limerick city centre.
The scenes unfolded outside Arthur’s Quay Shopping Centre on Tuesday evening (June 20) and have been shared many times across social media platforms.
A Garda spokesman said they were not aware of the video, nor were they aware of any complaints made regarding the incident.
A Garda source later described the footage as “nasty”.
The video footage begins with a male performing a dangerous “big boot” wrestling move on the woman, kicking her into the face, as she rushes towards him outside the front entrance of the riverside shopping centre.
The woman is sent backwards onto the footpath from the impact of the man’s kick, as members of the public, including children, look on.
Despite being knocked to the ground, the woman, who was joined by a second woman and an older man, gets to her feet and follows the man.
The woman continues remonstrating with the man, who then performs a karate-style high-kick into the first woman’s head.
She continues to pursue the man aggresssively, despite his attempts to leave the scene, telling the woman “I don’t want to fight you, stay away from me … Please stay away.”
The woman continues her intimidating advances on the man, as he then appears to strike the woman’s head as she stumbles into a wall.
A female onlooker can be heard screaming at the man “what the f–k are you doing, don’t touch her”.
The woman continues following the man, at one point appearing to pick something up from the ground and attempting to strike the man in the face, scolding a young boy who walks towards her trying to calm the situation.
The older man, who the woman is heard saying is her father, puts his arms around the woman, telling her to “walk away, f–k him”.
However, the woman breaks free from the older man’s grasp and runs at the first man again, who kicks her into her chest, sending her to the ground again.
The woman gets to her feet again and follows the man, who pushes her, knocking her down between the footpath and a parked car.
A female onlooker can be heard at one point in the footage screaming “go up and kill him”.
