A LIMERICK sports star, beloved by fans the world over, has come in second in a list of the highest earning Irish athletes on Instagram.
A new study by BettingTop10 Ireland looked at what Irish athletes earned from sharing sponsored posts on their Instagram feeds.
Limerick’s Becky Lynch (real name Rebecca Quin) was second only to Conor McGregor, earning an average of €13,772 per sponsored post.
Lynch, a WWE wrestling star, was born in Limerick, but grew up in Dublin. She began wrestling in 2002, going on to become the first woman to hold both WWE Raw Women’s Championship and SmackDown Women’s Championship at the same time in 2019.
With 5.7 million followers on Instagram, Lynch shares clips from her wrestling matches, as well as family photos, including of her two-year-old-daughter Roux.
The Limerick-born woman signed with the WWE in 2013 following a few years break from the sport after suffering a head injury.
Beating the WWE star to the top spot was Conor McGregor, who makes a staggering €111,495 on average for each sponsored Instagram post shared with his 46.4 million followers.
Third on the list was pro-boxer Katie Taylor who makes an average of €1,931 per sponsored post she shares. The Olympic Gold Medal winning boxer has just over half a million followers on her Instagram account.
Bottom of the top 10 was Cork race walker Rob Heffernan, who makes just €177 on average for each paid post on his Instagram account.
