Gardaí stand down search for missing Shannon man

The search for 56-year-old John McNally has been called off following the discovery of a body.

A GARDA search for a missing Shannon man has been stood down following the discovery of a body in Shannon on Tuesday (May 31).

Gardaí issued an appeal for the public’s help in finding missing John McNally, of Shannon, County Clare, on Saturday last (May 27). However the 56-year-old was reported as being last seen on Friday May 19.

Mr McNally was last seen in Shannon, County Clare. According to a statement issued on Tuesday, Gardaí confirmed that the land search had been called off.

The statement read: “Following the discovery of a body of a male in Shannon, County Clare, on Tuesday 30th May, 2023, the missing person appeal for John McNally (56 years) has been stood down.”

“An Garda Síochána would like to thank the public and the media for their assistance,” it concluded.

Foul play is not suspected.

No funeral arrangements for Mr McNally have been announced at time of going to press.
