The victim, a man in his twenties, stepped outside a pub to have a cigarette at approximately 11.55pm, when suddenly he was assaulted.

The assault resulted in the man suffering a serious head injury, which required hospitalisation.

Gardaí at Henry Street are investigating this incident and would like to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious.

They are also appealing to motorists who may have dashcam footage of the incident to come forward and make the footage available to them.
