A LIMERICK City retailer is among the best in the business and he now has a national award to back up the claim.
Shane Mellett, who manages the ALDI Castletroy Store on the Dublin Road, won the award for Supermarket Manager of the Year in the mid-size supermarket category at this year’s National Grocery Management Awards.
Shane began working with the German-owned supermarket chain as a trainee store manager in 2008 and now leads a team of 44 staff.
The competition judges said that Shane’s management and leadership skills were clearly demonstrated as he steers his team through the challenging retail environment, serving the needs of ALDI’s Castetroy customers.
Commenting on the award win, Shane said that working at ALDI for the past 15 years had been a real pleasure.
“From day one, ALDI gave me the tools to excel in my role as Store Manager. As a team, we work extremely hard to ensure the very best shopping experience for our customers, so I am thrilled to have our efforts recognised through this award,” he added.
The National Grocery Management Awards is Ireland’s premier scheme for recognising and honouring management excellence. The Awards honours the stars of the grocery retail management, showcasing the best practice management across the sector.
