Cork based musician, Paddy Dennehy has released โSheโs Mineโ from his forthcoming album โLove and Be Braveโ due out on May 25.
Speaking of the new song, Paddy says:
โโSheโs Mineโ quickly became my favourite song on this album. Itโs a protective chant, rampant and effusive in parts, and measured in others.
โAll with the sole aim of warding off the dangers of the world. Keeping anyone with harm in their hearts away from the one that I love.โ
Paddyโs first real sense of connection to music was listening to Mick Flannery perform โEvening Trainโ on the โLate Late Showโ.
From here there is a clear trajectory of influences – Mick Flannery led him to Tom Waits. Tom Waits led Paddy to Randy Newman, who would lead on to Nick Cave. Other influences would surface in later years but Flannery, Waits, Newman and Cave have formed the bedrock of Paddyโs music.
At Paddy Dennehyโs last show in Limerick, reporter, Sadhbh Pearce reviewed the night remembering that, โPaddy and the crowd would have happily stayed all night as it was so much fun.
โThe room shook with applause and the crowd wasted no time in giving a standing ovation.โ
If you make it to one of his shows be sure to go and say hi afterwards and tell him who youโre listening to at the moment.
You can catch Paddy Dennehy playing Upstairs Dolanโs on Sunday June 4. Not to be missed!
