Review: ARXX and CHERYM absolutely gave it (tube) socks

Hanni Pidduck of ARXX

Reporter Sadhbh Pearse (@sibhhead on twitter and instagram) attended Kasbah at Dolans last week to hear ARXX and guests Cherym for a Seoda Shows promotion.

Saturday, April 29 saw the return of Brighton duo ARXX to Dolans when they took over the Kasbah. ARXX debuted in Dolans last October when they supported Dublin-based band Pillow Queens in Dolans Warehouse.
The duo could be seen running around the venue, saying Hi to everyone and attendees could be heard saying “You wouldn’t see that with the bigger acts. They’re very down to earth, aren’t they?”

CHERYUM at Kasbah
Support act Cherym, a Derry-based trio, took to the stage, with their own unique spin. They made their entrance to audio from Mean Girls which had the crowd in peels of laughter. The LGBTQ+ group’s music is described as pop-punk-rock and gave an energetic and fun performance.

Once Cherym packed up and took off straight for Derry, ARXX began to change over the stage, adding plants, lighting, etc. The pair then reappeared in their standard navy mechanic-style outfits and dived right in. Drummer Clara set herself up, earpieces at the ready whilst guitarist Hanni got to tuning and doing crowd work, chatting about their gigs so far and their exhaustion, Clara chiming in “We shared a redbull to be here!”.

ARXX are some of the most energetic and passionate young performers out there and they absolutely gave it (tube) socks, from their first song, to fan favourite Call Me Crazy, sharing anecdotes along the way.
Hanni also told a story about when they were on tour with Pillow Queens in October, her guitar was damaged in transit, and lead vocalist Pamela gifted her one of her own guitars, which Hanni now treasures to this day.

Fans knew that their song Ride or Die was missing so of course it had to be the encore song! Everyone was singing at the top of their lungs, the night ending on a magical, alt punk note!
