Dr. Linley Hamilton has been a professional trumpet player for over thirty years, has released six albums as leader, and has appeared as sideman on over a hundred more.
Hamilton is a Lecturer in Music at Ulster University Magee and co-director of Magy’s Farm, a performance space and music development centre in Co. Down.
He has had his own jazz show on BBC Radio Ulster for 15 years, Jazzworld, and is renowned for his previous work with Paul Brady, Dana Masters, Andrew Strong and Van Morrison. He continues to be central to the jazz scene in Ireland as a performer, educator, broadcaster, mentor and researcher.
As a performer, Linley has an impressive catalogue of albums: Up to Now (2001), Taylor Made (2012), In Transition (2014), Making Other Arrangements (2018), For the Record (2020) and the recently recorded Ginger’s Hollow which is due for release in 2023 and features Adam Nussbaum drums, Mark Egan bass, Cian Boylan piano, Derek DOC O’Connor sax and Linley on trumpet.
He was a headliner at Cork Jazz Festival in 2017 and 2018 and for a recent project, performed at Pizza Express Holborn in a special show he curated to create the re-imagined music of Miles Davis and Jimi Hendrix.
His ‘For the Record’ and ‘Making other Arrangements’ albums spent a total of twenty-five weeks in the US Jazzweek charts. He will be touring extensively in 2023, coming to Limerick this weekend.
