THE future ownership of Limerick’s primary soccer venue came up for discussion at this month’s Metropolitan District council meeting.
The matter was raised by Labour Party councillor Conor Sheehan who asked if any dialogue had taken place between Limerick City and County Council and Limerick Enterprise Development Partnership (LEDP) about the ownership of the Market’s Field.
Referring to the grounds as “the spiritual home of Limerick soccer”, Cllr Sheehan said he wanted to know if there was a possibility of the council acquiring it from the LEDP.
He was told by Council Head of Property and Community Facilities Jayne Leahy that they have had preliminary discussions with the LEDP.
“There is no outcome to these discussions at this point but engagement will continue with relevant stakeholders,” Ms Leahy added.
