LIMERICK ranks third highest in the country when it comes to claims for damages caused by uninsured drivers.
That’s according to the Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Ireland (MIBI), who say that there have been 617 claims relating to accidents caused by uninsured drivers in Limerick over the past five years.
These figures place Limerick behind Dublin (4,605) and Cork (819) in the rankings. Neighbouring Galway and Clare recorded 394 and 173 claims respectively.
According to MIBI’s figures, local incidents of uninsured claims have fallen over the past five years, from 156 in 2018 to 124 in 2022. However the figures have remained high nationally.
MIBI chief executive David Fitzgerald commented that “over the last five years, the average Limerick motorist has paid out an extra €150 to €175 to cover the cost of accidents caused by uninsured and untraced driving”.
