UNIVERSITY Hospital Limerick (UHL) was once again ranked as Ireland’s most overcrowded hospital this week.

According to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) 94 patients were waiting on trolleys for in-hospital beds in the emergency department and on wards throughout the hospital yesterday (Wednesday).

So far this year, INMO Trolley Watch figures have put the Limerick hospital as the most overcrowded on 60 separate days, 49 of which were consecutive (between January 30 and April 12).

The sequence was broken by Cork University Hospital on April 13, which was again the country’s most overcrowded hospital on Tuesday of this week with 92 patients on trolleys.

Across the country, 562 patients waited on trolleys for in-hospital beds on Wednesday according to INMO. Trolley Watch figures are collated on weekdays only.
