DUNDALK’S finest Jinx Lennon is back with tour news and a 16 track record called ‘Walk Lightly when the Jug is Full’
The punk/folk musician/ranter is one-of-a-kind and has released his raw, uncompromising commentaries on society, inequality and mental health across multiple albums.
Jinx is all about uplifting people and “warning the local good guys about the bad guys itching to f*ck them up.”
The new album ‘Walk Lightly when the Jug is Full’ was recorded during the pandemic and is out now. He plays Pharmacia on Friday April 28.
Rooted in Lennon’s melodic new folk sound with open-tuned guitar utilising the natural materials of wood and wire, it is a brilliant collection of Lennon’s wry observations on the trials and weirdness of modern suburban life.
The opening track, pun intended, is about Jinx overcoming his awe for the likes of John Spillane and Andy Irvine and their open tuned instruments. The Dundalk man found his own way through the mire of learning something new in some style for the album.
‘Pregnancy Test Kit’ is about the most popular item on sale in the songwriter’s hometown, about the buyers themselves and what goes on around the place.
A duet with David Keenan called ‘Celibate Rifle Day’ looks at the ‘incel’ online community, the hive mentality and the nurturing of dangerous young minds.
Jinx spoke about the album’s origins.
“ ‘Walk Lightly When The Jug Is Full’ is a Kerry saying which I presume to mean do not squander your strength when you are at your peak fitness or something to that effect. The album is my North East punk folk voyage into Celtic tunings which I spent the covid years getting to grips with in North East Punk Folk mode of course.”
