FOR an unusual family treat over the Easter break, Wild Encounters Mini Zoo in Kilmeady is inviting people to visit and promising to donate ten per cent of their entry fees to the Animal Magic animal rescue service.
Rosie Campbell and Denis McCarthy have saved, rehabilitated, and released thousands of animals through their work with Animal Magic in Kilmallock, but, with over 200 animals currently in their care, finances are hard.
They’re not yet a registered charity so cannot fundraise and can only survive caring for and feeding their many rescued friends through donations.
Until April 16, the Wild Encounters mini zoo will donate part of its takings to the charity and visitors will be able to meet six loveable ferrets rescued by Rosie and Denis and adopted by Wild Encounters.
A spokesman for Wild Encounters said that “these ferrets were in a terrible a state, malnourished, covered in ticks and fleas before finding their way to Rosie and Denis.”
“They were loved and cared for and brought back to the pinnacle of health.
Once Rosie and Denis were happy with the conditions of the ferrets, they decided a forever home would be the perfect end for them, so we put our names forward as candidates and they were only too happy for us to take them.
“They’re living down in our small mammal barn and have adapted to their new life and home very well, with an enclosure expansion in the works soon as well as slowly being introduced to our original three ferrets. A couple of other species will also be joining us from Animal Magic in a few weeks too.
“We’d love to raise as much money as possible to help them out so please do tell everyone you can think of about visiting us this Easter break and supporting them,” the spokesman said.
