IT’S something of a bugbear for Seán Finn that he has never managed to register a score in his 60 appearances with Limerick.
The four-time All-Star, recognised as one of the greatest defenders of his generation, has limited chances to roam out the field and into scoring positions, but this hasn’t stopped others, most notably fellow corner-back Barry Nash, from floating over occasional points.
Even All-Stars goalkeeper Nickie Quaid has knocked over points down through the years.
In the league semi-final defeat of Tipperary, five out of Limerick’s 12 scorers were defenders.
Finn joked to Sporting Limerick: “Yeah the slagging continues, I haven’t got a score with Limerick yet but that is something that I could look to change in the next few weeks. So far it’s looking unlikely. But you never know. It would be nice to contribute to the scoreboard every so often.”
Finn, whose father Brian featured on Limerick’s 1992 NHL winning team (and victorious 1994 Munster Championship side), has two league medals to his credit, along with four All-Ireland and Munster championship honours.
He will wear his customary number two shirt in the league final against Kilkenny on Sunday, alongside fellow dependable performers Nash and Mike Casey, providing the usual cover to netminder Quaid.
Since his debut in 2017 (NHL win over Offaly), the 27-year-old Bruff clubman has lined-out in 30 league fixtures, along with a similar number in the championship arena.
