SPORTS ROUND-UP: Árdscoil through to Schools Junior Rugby Cup final

Árdscoil Rís will play PBC for the Eamonn Mulcahy Munster Schools Junior Cup.

ÁRDSCOIL Rís will run-up against Presentation Brothers College in the Munster Schools Junior Cup Final at Thomond Park next Wednesday (kick-off 2pm).

In their respective semi-finals, Árdscoil survived a comeback from local rivals Castletroy College and PBC came from behind to overcome St Munchin’s College.

Ardscoil built up a 23-0 half-time lead, but weathered a hectic storm from their dogged opponents in the closing period. Tries for the winners came through Frank Sheehan-Williams, Daniel O’Connell, Lloyd Costello, while James Butler was successful with one conversion attempt and also landed two fine penalties.

It’s a first appearance in the Under-16 Final for Árdscoil since 2012. The school has two Junior Cup wins, secured in 2003 and 2005.

The game will be refereed by John Lillis of Thurles who is manager of the Limerick Senior Camogie team.
