A LIMITED number of tickets remain for the final preview event before the Cheltenham Racing Festival starts on Tuesday next.
The event takes place at The Top of the Town, Askeaton on Sunday (7pm)
Host Brian Collins, a local independent bookmaker, has assembled a stellar panel, including top trainers John McConnell, Eoin McCarthy and Mikey Winters, along with jockeys Richie Condon and Harry Swan.
McConnell will have a string of runners at Prestbury Park, including each-way chance Fennor Cross (Supreme Novices’ Hurdle) and Mahlers Mission (Amateur Jockey’s Novice Chase) on the opening afternoon.
Other entries for the Meath handler include: Kinbarra (Champion Bumper) and Grand Soir (Novices’ Hurdle).
He has won at Cheltenham several times but not at the main event.
“The next step is to try and get a winner at the Festival,” he said.
“It’s an awful lot more difficult than October or November but we’re slowly heading in that direction. It would be great to get a Cheltenham winner at some point in March, I could probably retire happy then!
“By Sunday night in Askeaton, I will have the latest update on which exact races my horses will be, and their latest form.”
Tickets are €20 (to include €10 free bet, drink and finger food) and the contact is: Josh Sheahan, 085 1462337.
Proceeds in aid of the Injured Jockeys Fund.
